A: I hear that you're pretty interested in recycling?
君はリサイクルにとても興味があると聞いています[→ あるそうですね]。
B: Yes, I am. As a matter of fact, I'm the head of the neighborhood recycling committee. These days we can not afford to just throw away our trash without thinking about the environment.
these days ： この頃、最近
throw O away / throw away O ： Oを捨てる
はい、あります。
実は私は地域のリサイクル委員会の委員長なんですよ。
最近は環境のことを考えないでゴミを捨てる余裕はないのでね。
A: That's right. Well, maybe you can help me understand the trash system.
help 人 V ： 人がVするのを助ける、手伝う ⇒ 参考ページ
その通りです。
では多分君は私がゴミ(収集)のシステムを理解するのと助けてくれることができます。

B: Certainly, I'd like to. What do you need to know?
Certainly ： Sure や Of course の少し改まった表現
もちろん、そうしたいです[→ はい、喜んで]。
何を知る必要があるのですか[→ 何が知りたいのですか]。
A: Well, for instance, when should I throw out my plastics?
for instance = for example
throw O out / throw out O ： O(ごみ)を出す
そうですね、例えばいつプラスチック(ごみ)を出せばいいんでしょうか？
B: Plastics ... That would be every Tuesday. But you must remove the labels from the bottles and wash them thoroughly.
That would be ～ ： That is ～ の遠回しな表現
プラスチック ... それは毎週火曜日でしょう[→ 火曜日だったと思います]。
でも、瓶からラベルをはがしてよく洗わないといけません。
A: That seems too troublesome for just throwing out garbage.
それは単にゴミを出すにしてはあまりに面倒なように思えます。
→ 単にゴミを出すだけなのにちょっと手間がかかりすぎなような気がします。
B: But It's important for everybody to take recycling to heart. We all need to work together to make the earth a cleaner place. It's also important for us grownups to set a good example for the children.
take O to heart ： Oを真剣に考える、Oを心に留める
work together ： お互いに協力する
set a good example for ～ ： ～に良い例をしめす、～のよい模範になる
でも、皆がリサイクルを真剣に考えるのは大切です。
私達は皆地球をもっときれいな場所にするために共に協力する必要があります。
私たち大人が子供たちによい例を示すことも大切です。
A: I suppose you're right. I'll do my best to separate my trash correctly. So when should I throw out my cans and glass bottles?
do one's best ： 最善を尽くす
So, ： で、 ⇒ 参考ページ
君の言うとおりだと思います。
正しくゴミを分別するよう最善を尽くします。
で、缶とガラス瓶はいつ捨てればいいんでしょうか？
B: Cans are collected twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday. Then glass and bottles are picked up on the first and third Mondays. These too must be stripped of their labels and washed.
pick O up / pick up O ： (ゴミ収集車が)O(ゴミ)を持って行く、収集する
strip O of ～ ： Oから～を剥(は)がす、取り去る
These must be stripped of ～ = You must strip these of ～ ： これらから～を剥がさなければいけない
too = also
缶は月に2回、第2と第4水曜に収集されます。
それから、ガラスと瓶は第1と第3月曜に収集されます。
これらもラベルをはがして洗わないといけません。
A: Wow! That's more information than I can handle at one time. Do you have all the information on a schedule?
more ～ than I can handle ： 私が扱えるより多くの～
(than は比較の意味を含んだ関係代名詞。この場合、～は handle の目的語だから「目的格の関係代名詞」)
at one time ： 一度に
have ～ on a schedule ： ～が予定表に載っている
うわ、それは私が一度に処理できるより多くの情報です。
→ そんなにたくさんの情報は一度に扱いきれません。
その情報は全部予定表に載っていますか？
B: Certainly, I'll get that to you tomorrow. I'll also bring some other recycling pamphlets that will help you develop into a real green person. Before you know it, you'll be good at recycling, too.
get O to ～ ： Oを～のところへ持って行く
help 人 V ： 人がVするのに役立つ ⇒ 参考ページ
green ： 環境問題意識の高い
before you know ： 知る前に[→ 知らない間に → いつのまにか]
※ 相手の所に持って[連れて]行く場合は、take ではなく bring を使うことに注意！
もちろんです、明日それを君のところに持って行ってあげましょう。
君が真の環境問題に意識の高い人に成長するのに役立つ他のリサイクル関連パンフレットも持って行ってあげます。
知らない間に[いつのまにか]、君もリサイクルが上手になることでしょう。
A: Thanks, you're very helpful. By the way, what started you in recycling?
by the way ： ところで、

B: I love hiking but every time I go to the mountains I see so much trash, so I decided to do what I can to clean up the earth.
every time S + V ： SがVする度に (接続詞相当語句)
do what I can (do) ： できることをする
私はハイキングが好きなんですが、山に行く度にとても多くのゴミを見るんです。
だから、地球をきれいにするために自分にできることをしようと決心したんです。
A: That's a really nice idea. I have just one more question ... When do I recycle the recycling information pamphlets?
one more ～ = another ～
それは本当によい考えです。
もうひとつだけ質問があるんですけど ... いつリサイクル関連パンフレットをリサイクルするのでしょうか？
