A: You look pretty embarrassed. What happened?
look pretty embarrassed ： とても恥ずかしい[ばつが悪い]思いをさせられたように見える
※ embarrassed は surprised や interested と同じく形容詞化しているので、very や pretty を付けることができる。
とても恥ずかしそうな顔つきをしていますね。どうしたのですか？
B: I forgot to study my English lesson.
英語のレッスンの勉強をするのを忘れていたんです。
A: That doesn't sound like anything to get embarrassed about.
get embarrassed about ～ ： ～のことで恥をかかされた状態になる → ～のことで恥をかく
※ about ～ の ～ は to の前の anything (不定詞の形容詞的用法) ⇒ 参考ページ
そんなことは恥をかくこと[原因]のようには聞こえません[思えません]けど。
B: It is, though. You see, I couldn't answer in class.
though ： [副] けれども、ところが
You see ： 会話で相手の注意を促したい場合などに、使う。 ⇒ 参考ページ
ところがそうなんです。
授業で答えられなかったんですよ。
A: I see. But I'll bet it taught you a good lesson.
I bet … = I'll bet … = I'm sure … ： きっと…だ
なるほど。
きっといい教訓になったでしょう。
B: What do you mean?
どういう意味ですか？
A: You'll never make the mistake of not studying again.
名詞 of Ving ： Ｖする(という)名詞
君はもう二度と勉強しないという間違いを犯さないでしょうから。

A: No matter where you go, you see signs saying DPE. I wonder what they mean.
※ you は、話し手も含めた一般的主語
signs saying ～ ： ～と言っている[→ 書いてある]看板
どこに行ってもDPEと書いてある看板を見かけます。どういう意味なんでしょう？
B: DPE stands for developing, printing, and enlarging. You find those signs in front of camera shops.
stand for ～ ： ～を表す、～の略である
DPE は developing(現像) printing(焼付け) enlarging(引き伸ばし) を表しています[の略です]。
カメラ屋の前でそういう看板を見つけます[→ 前にそのような看板があります]。
A: I see. Photography is certainly popular here, isn't it?
なるほど、写真撮影はここでは本当に人気がありますね。
B: Yes. Almost everyone seems to be interested in taking pictures.
はい。ほとんど誰もが写真を撮ることに興味があるようです。
A: What kind of camera do you have?
どんな種類のカメラを持っているのですか？
B: I don't have one now. But I'm thinking of getting one.
one = a camera
be thinking of Ving ： Ｖすることを考えている → Ｖしようかなと思っている
今は持っていません。でも、一台買おうかなと思っています。
A: Good ones are rather expensive, aren't they?
ones = cameras
良いカメラはかなり高価ですね。
B: Yes. But I think I'll get a medium-priced one. I can't afford to spend over fifty thousand yen.
can't afford to V ： Ｖする余裕はない（財政的・時間的・精神的）
はい。でも、中程度の価格のものを買おうと思っています。5万円より多く費やす余裕はないので。

A: Do you have any hobbies?
何か趣味はお持ちですか？
B: Pardon me? I couldn't hear you.
Parden me? = Excuse me? [語尾を上げる] ： (失礼ですが)もう一度おっしゃってください
何とおっしゃいましたか？聞こえませんでした。
A: I asked if you have any hobbies.
if … = whether … ： …かどうか
趣味はお持ちかと尋ねたのです。
B: Oh, yes. I raise cacti.
raise O [レイズ] = grow O ： Ｏを育てる、栽培する
cacti [カクタイ] ： cactus [カクタス] サボテンの複数形 (cactuses [カクタスィズ]でもよい)
はい分かりました。サボテンを育てています。
A: That must be interesting. Do many people raise them?
それは面白いに違いありません[→ きっとおもしろいでしょうね]。
多くの人がさぼてんを育てているのですか？
B: Well, not in Japan. But in the United States it's a very popular hobby.
うーん、日本では育てていませんね。でも、合衆国では非常に人気のある趣味です。
