whether (ホ)ウェザー には「副詞節」としての用法と「名詞節」としての用法の二つがあります。
副詞節 → 節(＝主語と動詞を備えた文)が副詞の働きをしているもの。言わば「大きな副詞」
名詞節 → 節(＝主語と動詞を備えた文)が名詞の働きをしているもの。言わば「大きな名詞」
whether … or (whether) ～ ： …しようが～しようが、…あろうと～であろうと (副詞節)
whether … or not ： …しようがしまいが、…であろうとなかろうと (副詞節)
1. I won't go whether it is sunny or whether it is rainy.
主節 副詞節 / 従属節
1. 晴れだろうが雨だろうが、私は行きません。
I won't go が主節(この英文の中心の文)で、 whether it is sunny or whether it is rainy は主節を副詞的に修飾する従属節になっています。
副詞節を主節より先行させて、
1. Whether it is sunny or whether it is rainy, I won't go.
副詞節 / 従属節 主節
としても構いません。
ただしその場合はコンマで区切り、読む時もちょっと rainy の語尾を上げ、ポーズも入れましょう。
同じ語句の繰り返しを避けて、、
1. I won't go whether it is sunny or rainy.
1. = Whether it is sunny or rainy, I won't go.
としても構いません。
この文が一番よく使われる形だと思います。
さらに、主語とbe動詞をセットで省略して、、
1. I won't go whether sunny or rainy.
1. = Whether sunny or rainy, I won't go.
としても構いません。
全部まとめて列挙します。
(○) を先に覚えて、後は書き換えができるだけでもかまいません。
1. 晴れだろうが雨だろうが、私は行きません。
1. I won't go whether it is sunny or whether it is rainy.
1. = Whether it is sunny or whether it is rainy, I won't go.
1. I won't go whether it is sunny or rainy. (○)
1. = Whether it is sunny or rainy, I won't go. (○)
1. I won't go whether sunny or rainy.
1.= Whether sunny or rainy, I won't go.
選択肢が一つしかない場合は、or ～ の後の ～ を not に換え、 whether … or not にします。
2. I won't go whether it is sunny or not.
2. = Wheher it is sunny or not, I won't go.
2. 晴れであろうとなかろうと、私は行きません。
whether の後の文[…]が長い場合は、whether or not … のように倒置して、
2. I won't go whether or not it is sunny.
2. = Whether or not it is sunny, I won't go.
注意！ 副詞節の場合は or not は省略できません。次回に学習する名詞節の場合は省略できます。
としても構いません。
こちらも全部列挙します。
2. 晴れであろうとなかろうと、私は行きません。

4. あなたは、それを好きであろうとなかろうと[好むと好まざるとにかかわらず]、それをしなければならない。

4. You must do it whether or not you like it.
4. = Whether or not you like it, you must do it.
では、最後に次の日本語を上記の英語に戻せるようにして次回に進みましょう。
最初は(○)だけ覚えて、その後でそれ以外のバージョンも言えるようにしてください。
