Modern transportation is getting faster and faster.
現代の交通(輸送)機関はどんどん速くなってきている。
Many years ago a trip around the world was a long and dangerous adventure.
昔、世界一周旅行は長く危険な冒険であった。
Today, some of the fastest jet planes can circle the globe in just a short time.
今日、最速のジェット機のいくつか[一部は]はほんの短い時間で地球を一周することができる。
→ 今日、最速のジェット機の中にはごくわずかな時間で地球を一周できるものもある。
While most passenger jets are a little slower, they are convenient, safe and very comfortable.
While …, ～ ： …だが、～である …である一方、～である
たいていのジェット旅客機はスピードは(最速のものより)少し遅いが、便利で安全で非常に快適である。
World travel was once very expensive, but nowadays, all kinds of people travel by air, from the very young to the very old.

世界旅行は昔は非常にお金がかかったが、最近は幼い子供[幼児]から高齢者まであらゆる種類の人が飛行機で旅をする。
With so many people traveling to so many places, the world has become a smaller place.
With so many people traveling to so many places ： [直訳] 非常に多くの人が非常に多くの場所へ旅行している状況と共に (付帯状況)
→ 非常に多くの人が非常に多くの場所へ旅行しているので、世界は(以前より)小さな場所になっ(てしまっ)た。
In the near future, we may be able to get on a spaceship and travel to the stars.
近い将来、私たちは宇宙船に乗って(別の)星まで旅できるかもしれない。
However there are many transportation problems still unsolved.
しかしながらまだ解決されていない[未解決の]交通問題が多くある。
しかしながら多くの交通問題がまだ解決されていない[未解決のままである]。
[注] この英文は解釈が2通りできる。
「過去分詞の形容詞的用法」に解釈すれば、still unsolved が後ろから problems を修飾して、上の訳になる。
Many transportation problems are still unsolved. の are を文頭に倒置して、擬似主語として意味のない There を置いたものと解釈すれば、下の和訳になる。（There 構文）
どちらに解釈しても意味はほぼ同じ。
Take Tokyo for instance, its transportation system is considered to be one of the best in the world, with bullet trains, linear motor cars, and an extensive subway system.
例えば東京を例に取ってみよう。
東京の交通システムは、弾丸列車[新幹線]やリニアモーターカーや広範囲に及ぶ地下鉄システム[地下鉄網]を持ち[有し]、世界で最も良いもの[最も良いシステム]の一つだとみなされている。
But it is terribly overcrowded.
しかしそれ[そのシステム]は非常に込み合っている。
During rush hours, for example, it is almost impossible to get on most of the inner-city trains and subways.
例えば、ラッシュアワーの間[混雑時]、都心の電車や地下鉄(の大部分)に乗るのはほとんど不可能である。
Sometimes the crowds are so bad that people are injured.
be injured ： 怪我をさせられる → 怪我をする
時々人ごみがとてもひどいので人々は怪我をする。
→ 時々乗客の込み具合がとてもひどく怪我をするものもいる。
It is particularly difficult for young children and senior citizens to use the trains during busy hours.
幼い子供や老人が忙しい時間の間に[混雑時に]電車を使う[に乗る]のは特に難しい。
Before we start worrying about traveling to the stars, we should improve the transportation systems of our cities, here on earth.
(他の)星へ旅行することを心配し始める前に、ここ地球の(私達の)都市の交通システムを改善すべきである[したほうがいい]。
